The glide avalanche problem continues to be a low probability, high consequence concern. Dont` be fooled by the frozen surfaces as the rain and moisture within the snowpack are insulated from the air temperature and continue to trickle through the snowpack. Expect challenging skiing conditions today that will improve when the sun comes out and softens up the solar aspects.
Warm temperatures and rain have added a significant amount of moisture which is now percolating through the snowpack.
Wet loose avalanches are possible on solar aspects
No new avalanches have been reported in the past 24 hours.
5-10mm of Rain fell across most of the region and at most elevations yesterday before cooling temps turned the rain to snow. The upper snowpack has now re-frozen with 0-5cms of snow which mostly fell as graupel overlying the re-frozen surfaces.
After yesterday`s temperature spike, freezing level`s have dropped back to surface this morning accompanied by moderate West winds that will shift to the South later in the day. Skies are expected to be mostly clear through the day with a chance of clouds and light precipitation later in the afternoon. Freezing levels will rise to 250m today with valley temperatures reaching a high of 3C.
