Watch out for unstable slabs that remain in extreme terrain at higher elevations. Because of the hard snow surface beneath the slab, even a small avalanche can cause you to slip and fall. On the other hand, at lower elevations, when passing under glide cracks, move quickly and keep a good distance from your companions. Even if the likelihood of occurrence is low, hitting a snow block can have serious consequences.

Yesterday (31st), several size 1 dry loose snow avalanches caused by ski cuts were observed in the alpine area.
At higher elevations, recent snowfall has accumulated in terrain pockets, but no significant instabilities have been observed. Note the slabs on which extreme terrain is placed. Snow on shaded slopes at higher elevations remains dry. Exposed Melt-Freeze crusts, on the other hand, are harder at higher elevations and less so on lower elevation, sunny slopes.
A low pressure system is passing over the southern coast of Japan with an inflow of cold air. Considering this cloud influence, the JMA is forecasting 10 cm of snowfall by 6 am tomorrow morning. The forecast for northern Nagano Prefecture also calls for southerly winds, snow or rain, cloudy in the evening, and a daytime high of 9 °C (418 m elevation). At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is 0.4 °C (as of 5:00 a.m.), and no precipitation has been recorded in the past 24 hours. At the main ridge (elevation 2,400 m), the temperature is -6.5 °C (as of 5:00) and the wind is about 1 m/s.
