Winds have been blowing near the main ridge strong enough to move the snow since last night. Be on the lookout for wind slabs forming just below the ridge. Snowfall amounts over the past few days have not been heavy, but with light wind conditions, there is plenty of snow to move around. Breakable crusts are forming near the treeline. Falls can attract all kinds of trouble, so ski carefully. At lower elevations, watch out for crumbling snow blocks that remain on steep slopes. The sides of the forest roads used for descents are also places to be careful.
Watch out for wind slabs forming just below the ridge and elsewhere.
Watch out for leftover snow blocks that remain on the steep slopes.
No new avalanches were reported yesterday (3rd). It is necessary to take into account that the number of people entering the mountain was low.
Alpine has received 15-20 cm of snowfall in the past few days. A weak winter pressure system began last night, accompanied by moderately strong winds near the main ridge. Temperatures also dropped, so crusts were forming at elevations where the snow surface was moist or wet. On the other hand, the snow is melting at lower elevations.
The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, cloudy, sometimes sunny, rain or snow in places until early afternoon, and daytime high temperatures of 11 °C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At AMeDAS Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is 1.7 °C (as of 5:00 a.m.), with about 4 mm of precipitation since yesterday. At the main ridge (elevation 2,400 m), the temperature is -9 °C (as of 5:00), with northerly winds averaging 12 m/s and a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 16 m/s.
