Note the bonding of storm slabs on open, steep slopes with little tree cover or where there are abrupt changes in slope. Be especially careful at higher elevations where bonding due to settling is less likely to proceed. Watch for avalanches from large start zones overhead, even if you are on a low slope yourself. Clear skies are forecast during the day. Be aware of the possibility of wet snow avalanches from large, steep, south-facing slopes. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep gullies, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the generated avalanche is small.
Caution is needed on steep slopes at higher elevations where bonding is difficult to advance.
Yesterday, there was a report of a size 1 loose snow avalanche observed on the eastern slope near 1600m elevation.
The southerly steep slopes melted and formed crusts due to solar radiation on the 30th, and 30-40 cm of stormy snowfall until the 31st was on top of the crusts. The settling is expected to be slow and the coupling is expected to be gradual.
As of 6:00 am, 1 cm of snow had fallen in the past 24 hours around the Fujiwara area of the AMeDAS. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting that the area will be covered by high pressure, but will be gradually affected by a frontal system extending from a low-pressure system in the afternoon and that it will become cloudy in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture afternoon, with rain or snow in some areas in the evening.
