Avalanche danger should be considered sufficiently high on steep downwind slopes when snowfall intensity of 3 cm per hour with moderate winds (dry snow moving across the snow surface) continues for 3-4 hours. Avalanche
Yesterday (25th), a size 1 wet loose snow avalanche was reported at a very low elevation. This avalanche was triggered by ski cutting.
Snowpack
Yesterday (25th) there was a light snowfall associated with the passage of a low pressure system. Temperatures were high and rain fell at lower elevations. Yesterday's snow did not significantly change snow accumulation conditions. However, the weather is moving toward a winter pressure pattern and snowfall with wind has begun at higher elevations. Depending on the amount of snowfall in the future, the danger level will increase significantly. Be on the lookout for vulnerabilities at the interface between new and old snow, or within the new snow.

Today, a low pressure system is expected to move east of Japan to the northeast and east-northeast, resulting in a high pressure system in the west and a low pressure system in the east. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, cloudy skies, snow in the evening, and a daytime high of 5 °C for northern Nagano Prefecture. At 703 m elevation in Hakuba, the temperature is -0.7 °C (as of 5:00 pm). The Nagano District Meteorological Observatory is forecasting 40 cm of snowfall for northern Nagano Prefecture at 4:26 a.m. on February 26, 24 hours to 6:00 a.m. on February 27.
