At higher elevations where it is snowing, watch for the formation of storm slabs. Even small avalanches can have serious consequences if there is a "terrain trap" lower down the slope. On the other hand, at lower elevations where rainfall continues, be on the lookout for glide avalanches. Stay away from steep slopes with glide cracks. Weather conditions are forecast to worsen distinctly, so plan your tour with this in mind.
Snow is falling near the main ridge line and southwest winds (averaging 10 m/s) are blowing. 5-10 cm of snow has fallen in the upper treeline. Watch out for further strengthening of the winds and snow.
Precipitation has been falling since yesterday. Stay away from slopes with glide cracks.
It remains with high uncertainty.
The weather was poor yesterday (25th) and no new avalanche reports were received.
At lower elevations, rain has been falling since yesterday (the 25th) (about 15 mm by this morning). Since the temperature has started to drop since yesterday afternoon, snow has been falling at higher elevations. As the pressure pattern will shift to a winter type, please pay attention to the intensity of snowfall at higher elevations. In areas at lower elevations, even if temperatures drop slightly, the overall intensity of snowfall is still decreasing. Great care should be taken to avoid glide avalanches.
Today, a low pressure system with a rapidly developing front is expected to move from western Japan to the east of the Kanto region. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting northerly winds, rain, nighttime snow, and daytime high temperatures of 8 °C for northern Nagano Prefecture. At 703 m elevation in Hakuba, the temperature is 1.6 °C (as of 5:00 a.m.). At 4:50 a.m. on March 26, the Nagano Prefectural Meteorological Office is forecasting 40 mm of rainfall and 20 cm of snowfall for northern Nagano Prefecture in the 24-hour period ending at 6:00 a.m. on March 27.
